Portion of Suncoast Trail Closed for Repairs

Pasco County has announced that part of the Suncoast Trail in Pasco County will be closed Feb. 27 to March 9 for repairs and resurfacing.

If you’re considering biking the Suncoast Trail this spring, you might want to consider a detour.

Pasco County has announced that part of the Suncoast Trail in Pasco County – between State Road 52 and State Road 54 — will be closed Feb. 27 through March 9 for repairs and resurfacing.

The project is one of Pasco County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources‘ scheduled maintenance plans to improve the Suncoast Multi-Use Trail. The trail will be resurfaced to repair any existing uneven areas and any deteriorating sides, making the trail safer for walkers and bikers to pass one another.

However, other sections of the 42-mile paved trail stretching from Hillsborough County through Pasco to Hernando County will welcome bicyclists and hikers throughout the spring.

The shared path is owned by the Florida Department of Transportation, Turnpike Enterprise, and operated and maintained by the three counties’ parks and recreation departments. The majority of the trail, nearly 22 miles, is in Pasco County.

The Suncoast Trail is part of Florida’s statewide system of greenways and trails. There are trailheads located at S.R. 54 and the Suncoast Parkway with grass parking spaces and paved handicap parking spaces. There are benches along the trail as well as some sheltered tables, watering stations, four information kiosks, restrooms, a public telephone and two wildlife viewing areas.
