The Art of the Meal

Drivers traveling down State Road 50 toward Highway 19 will notice a beautiful rendering of healthy foods by Alexzandria Lewis, a fourth-grade student from Deltona Elementary.

The art contest sponsored by Hernando County Health Dept. invited students in elementary grades to celebrate the Every Kid Healthy Week.

“We are so proud of Alexzandria. She is a talented young artist who brings her creativity and her enthusiasm to Deltona every day, “ Principal Debi Vermette said.

Students at Deltona enjoy a unique art class entitled “The Write Way To Paint.” Led by teachers Carol Marks and Ruth Flaspeter, this class blends the art of the written word and visual artistry.

Students who demonstrate outstanding writing work are able to participate in this art class that helps students sharpen their communication muscle through different art forms.

A second DES student. 5th grader Kazel Vincent, also won an art contest from the Supervisor of Election Office. The contest asked students to use art to show the “Meaning of Democracy”. Currently, that painting is on display at the Office of Elections and will move to the Brooksville Office of Elections soon.

Congratulations to these Deltona students!
