The Bus connects Hernando in many different ways.
Hernando County Transit, also know at TheBus, began offering new service improvements in January of 2016. Those enhancements include service expansion into Pasco County (Hernando Connects), the addition of a new “Green Route,” and a reduction in wait times.
TheBus riders can travel from Hernando County to Pasco County Public Transportation (PCPT) at the Scheer Commerce Center on Emerald Drive between U.S. 19 and Bachmann Avenue. This bus route serves commuters, shoppers, students, workers and other riders traveling the U.S. 19 corridor, helping to increase economic opportunity and mitigate traffic congestion in the area.
The Hernando Connects service expansion provides a regional transit system connection for Hernando, Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties (Fares for each transit system apply).
The Green Route
The Green Route serves riders traveling to the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport and Technology Center, Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind, Nature Coast Technical High School, Chocachatti Elementary School, Bayfront Health Brooksville, Pasco-Hernando State College – Spring Hill Campus and other locations. Approximately 80 bus stops are now available on California Street, U.S. 19, and Spring Hill Drive.
The new routes are in addition to the existing “Red, Blue and Purple” routes that serve Spring Hill and Brooksville. Wait times have been reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes providing riders with more frequent service.
The mission of TheBus is to provide safe, efficient, and accessible transit services to citizens and visitors in need of transportation, and to evolve into a system that ultimately provides for the mobility of all residents and visitors in Hernando County, offering a viable choice among travel modes.
Bus riders can use exact change, purchase tickets, or buy monthly passes.
For safety reasons, drivers do not carry cash and are unable to make change. Reduced fare options are available for Seniors 65 years or older, students, Medicare recipients, and for those who are disabled.
TheBus‘s website, provides detailed information on bus routes, schedules, maps, fares, and bus stop locations. There is also a trip planner feature to help route your trip.
This is a cooperative effort of the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, and McDonald Transit Associates Inc., serving the citizens with affordable public transportation
